I’ve been a teacher, PTA member, and school board member, I fight for our kids every day to make sure they have what they need to succeed and a big part of that is making sure our teachers have the tools and flexibility they need. Our future is in our teachers’ hands, which is why education policy is so critical to any community.
Tom Rust's votes have not always been in the best interest of our schools. For example, just this year he supported a school takeover plan that would strip our local school boards' authority and put our schools in the hands of political appointees in Richmond.
It's not enough to say you want to reform the SOLs, you need to give an indication of where you think they need to go. That's why I support Jennifer Boysko, because she has been clear and concise about empowering teachers to teach. Our teachers spend years honing their craft to propel our youth forward, they’re literally on the front lines of our future, and they need a champion who understands and appreciates what they do, not someone who would reduce them to doing test preparation.
What these women and men do is fundamental to our communities, our state, and our country. Their sole professional desire is to make sure our kids are well-educated, well-prepared, and well-established to face the changing landscape of tomorrow. Jennifer knows that the best way for them to do that is to let them teach. Simply to let them teach, to practice their art.
Critical thinking, problem solving--that’s the basis for an innovative society. If our children can learn how to achieve a solution rather than just fill in a Scantron sheet, we will have done our jobs as educators. If we help elect Jennifer Boysko this Tuesday, November 5th, we will have done our jobs as responsible community members.
